The lowdown on leasing an EV

Our quick guide to the ins and outs of personal leasing

Lowdown of leasing an EV

When you get an EV from us, you’ll take out a personal lease.

If you’re a first-time leaser, here are the big things you need to know.

A personal lease isn’t forever

When you lease your EV from us, you’ll pay a bit upfront (you decide how much) and a set amount each month. You can make your EV your own for as long as you’re leasing it. But when the contract’s up, you’ll have to give it back.

Of course, EV tech’s evolving so fast that giving your old car back is really just a chance to upgrade to a newer model. Doing that with a lease is easy as you don’t have the hassle of selling your old car first.

One price doesn’t fit all

Once you’ve done the hard part (choosing your EV*) we’ll work out how much you need to pay each month. We do that based on:

  • the price of your car
  • how many miles you expect to cover each year
  • how much you’re happy to pay upfront.

Leasing isn’t the same as hire purchase

PCP (personal contract purchase) is a type of hire purchase contract that some companies offer on new cars. Like a personal lease, a PCP lets you pay for your EV in fixed monthly amounts. Unlike a lease, you can buy your car outright at the end of the contract with a final balloon payment which you might want to put something aside for every month in addition to the standard monthly PCP payment.

We only do personal leases, not PCP

We prefer personal leases. For starters, the monthly payments are almost always cheaper than with PCP (although PCP can still be cheaper than paying for a new car in monthly instalments). There’s no extra interest to pay, either.

And if you’re new to EVs or you’re a sucker for the very latest tech, it’s easy to upgrade your car when your lease ends. We’ve loved just about every new EV we’ve seen. But who knows how much the tech will advance in the next few years.

If you don’t want to be tied to today’s EV tech tomorrow, leasing’s a good way to go.

Your lease doesn’t cover the cost of your charging unit

If you’ve got off-street parking, it makes sense to install a charger at home if you can. We don’t include the cost of buying or fitting the charging point in your lease.

*and if you just can’t decide, or you don’t fancy spending hours researching, give Tom and the team a call. We know our EVs inside out. And once we know more about you, we’ll be happy to suggest an EV or two that could be just right for you.
