What's hot in 2021 in the EV market?
Our guide to what to watch out for
These are exciting times to be driving electric vehicles, with governments and the automotive industry now embracing them as the future of transport.
Every year brings new developments and spectacular arrivals in the EV market that continue to blow away any misconceptions about what an electric vehicle should look or drive like.
2021 has all the potential to be the most exciting year yet in the world of EVs, with some absolutely stunning new vehicles due to be launched this year.
Here’s our guide to what to watch out for on the roads.
Ford Mustang Mach-E
The Mustang is an iconic car so this first-ever EV version is causing lots of excitement. It’s also Ford’s first fully-electric car as well, even if it hasn’t got the Ford branding.
It promises an incredible range of up to 370 miles on one charge and it also comes with the thrill and all-round coolness of a good old-fashioned Mustang while opening up to the family audience by making it a four-door model.
The Mustang Mach-E is definitely one to watch.
Seat Minimo
While a Mustang will always catch the eye, you’ll certainly do a double-take the first time you see a Seat Minimo buzzing around a city centre.
Looking like a sleek futuristic version of a motorised scooter, the Minimo fits two people and looks like it will be a lot of fun to drive.
Tesla Cybertruck
You might have to wait until 2022 to actually see one of these on the roads but if you ever do, you’ll never forget that moment.
Elon Musk’s Cybertruck doesn’t look like anything you’ve ever seen outside of a movie and while its launch hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons when the shatterproof glass, erm, shattered, it’s an astonishing step into the future.
Would you drive one?
2021 Audi e-tron GT
Returning back to Earth now, this Audi EV is definitely a dream EV for anyone who can afford it.
This premium electric car looks incredible and offers a lot of horsepower with 0-60 to three seconds and with a superfast charging set-up and range of 248.5 miles, nothing should hold you back.
And because it’s an Audi, you just know the driving experience will be exquisite.
BMW i4
Another example of how EVs are hitting the premium ranges in 2021, this electric version of the BMW 4-series looks absolutely stunning and like the Audi is expected to be a beautiful drive.
Like the Mustang, it also promises a huge driving range of over 370 miles on a single charge. Also due to compete for this high-end market this year is Jaguar’s XJ, but which will come out on top?
GMC Hummer EV SUT
If nothing else convinces you of how far the EV market has come by now, the arrival of an electric Hummer should do the trick.
The epitome of a gas-guzzler, this big beast of the road has symbolised what we need to move away from in the way we drive and the brand has lain dormant for ten years now.
But it’s back with the EV SUT with up to 1,000 horsepower, and a range of up to 400 miles.
